Txoko in North Beach has launched “Free Foie Wednesdays.” Here’s how it works: When the restaurant opens at 5:30pm, the first 25 diners in the door will get a ticket for a free foie gras pintxo. The dish is similar to the one Txoko had on the menu prior to the Foie Gras ban — a foie gras torchon, with macerated prunes and wild rocket on a slice of Acme baguette. There is absolutely no purchase necessary and no strings attached. But please keep in mind, this special is a small bite-like pintxo, not a full-size foie gras entree. Also, if any interested parties happen to be in possession of some foie gras, it can be brought in and chef Ian Begg will prepare it.
